Youth
Exploring Aviation
The museum also sponsors "Youth Exploring Aviation" (YEA)
programs for kids ages 14-20. This program introduces young people to
the varying careers and avocations in aviation.
The museum has partnered
with the Boy Scouts of America, Blackhawk Council, Ranger District,
Post 76, to include this program as a part of the group's "Learning
for Life" initiative.
YEA meets every Thursday
from 6:30pm-9:00pm in the restoration shop known as the "Springfield
Hangar" on the museum grounds. YEA is currently involved with
restoration of a historic 1941 Aeronica "Chief". The goal is to bring
the aircraft back to flying status for the museum.
Once a month a "mini ground
school" is also held to educate students in the basics of light plane
fight.
The YEA also coordinates
aviation based field trips and orientation flights with EAA pilots.

these great programs, please contact the museum or call Dennis
